What is Native Wellness?

As a modern Native American, I recognize the importance of prioritizing wellness in my life. Drawing from the wisdom of my ancestors and the unique challenges we face today, I embrace a holistic approach to well-being that encompasses my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.

Mental and emotional well-being are vital aspects of my wellness journey. I acknowledge the historical traumas my Native community has endured and actively seek healing and self-care. Engaging in cultural practices such as storytelling, ceremony, and communal gatherings provides me with spaces for reflection, emotional release, and connection with others who understand the unique challenges we face. Additionally, I value mental health services that honor my cultural identity and incorporate traditional healing modalities, allowing me to address and heal from the wounds of the past.

Spiritual wellness holds profound significance in my life as a Native American. I find solace and a sense of purpose by engaging in sacred rituals, connecting with the natural world, and honoring the traditions of my ancestors. 

In this modern era, technology and the internet have provided avenues for Native Americans to establish virtual communities and share knowledge. I utilize online platforms and social media as powerful tools for promoting wellness and exchanging information about health practices, traditional remedies, and community resources. By harnessing these resources, I contribute to the creation of supportive networks, spread awareness, and draw inspiration from fellow Native individuals on their wellness journeys. The pursuit of wellness is not only an individual endeavor but also a collective effort, as we support and uplift one another in navigating the challenges of modernity while remaining rooted in our rich cultural legacy.

By embracing the wisdom of my ancestors, embracing cultural pride, and dedicating myself to a holistic approach to well-being, I forge a path that honors the past, nurtures the present, and ensures a brighter, healthier future for myself, my community, and future generations.
